Tell us about what you've been doing, i.e. hobbies, community service , business, travel.

While married to someone in the military, I lived here and overseas. We traveled in Europe and visited Greece, Hawaii and Trinidad.
I have 4 great sons. Two had brain damage. One is a Ranger, nurse, one has an MBA and one a chemical engineer. I have a son-of-choice and his daughter is my granddaughter. He and her wife live here in Jax.
Inherent in military life is moving every year and being a stay-at-home mom. After 5 colleges wherever we lived including an HBCU, I completed my bachelor's degreee at UNF.
I have been doing volunteer counseling for HIV/AIDS since the early nineties. I have worked The AIDS Quilt in d.c. I marched in d.c. for AIDS Awareness twice and Women's Health as well. I previously tested at a JASMYN, Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network, a safe house for LBGT youth. I am active in PFLAG, Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, and support our scholorship program for youth in college who are out.
I served on the City of Jacksonville Human Rights Commission for 6 years. I am working toward a change to the city ordinance to add the words “sexual orientation” and “gender presentation” to protect folks who are LGBT in employment, housing and public accommodation. I am involved in OUT Jacksonville, Organizations United Together, working toward the ordinance.
In d.c I attended American University's NTL for my Diversity Certification.
I have been a Realtor since '93.
I am a former marathoner and currently work with a trainer.
I collect primitive antiques, make quilts and garden.
I am privileged to have lived a full life with many gifts. “Just give love.”

My life purpose is Social Justice and Eliminating Oppression.
My dream is that all people contact the living spirit within all things.

So sad for the loss of Bebe.  She was a teacher.  I believe she experienced a terrible loss when her only son died a few years ago.  She was a dear and gentle spirit.  maria
